Dropped by Other Music last night to hear/see Coldcut. Got there about
9:10 after walking in the wrong damn direction for 15 minutes.
The place was crowded, but not uncomfortably so... I stood near the back
to have some breathing room, and really couldn't see much of what went on
on the tables.
I do know that there were two guys, one of whom wore a green shirt and
glasses... he appeared to be doing the actual spinning/mixing. The other
guy sat down, wearing a straw-looking hat. It looked like he was feeding the
green shirt guy records.
The music I heard was pretty varied, as far as the hip-hop meets electronica
beats go. Some slow pieces, some wickedly energetic yet lush pieces. And
some pretty interesting samples thrown in for good measure. I couldn't
place them exactly, but they did sound vaguely familiar.
I'm not sure if anything they played was from the new album, but I really
really really hope the song they played at about 9:20 is... totally whacked
out beats and bass vibes got the heads nodding a good bit.
